Connected Vehicle Technology in Cary

It’s here! Connected vehicle technology has arrived in Cary, creating a safer and more efficient traveling experience. Cary has upgraded all our traffic signals, school zone safety beacons, emergency vehicles, and pedestrian crossings with smart, connected vehicle technology to bring improved safety, faster emergency response times, increased awareness, and valuable metrics to the town's traffic infrastructure. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians can experience this first-of-its-kind project in North Carolina by downloading the Glance TravelSafely App (travelsafelyapp.com). To learn more, visit townofcary.org/connectedvehicles

Cary It Green

Holiday Collection Changes

  • The Citizen's Convenience Center will close at noon on Dec 24; and closed all day Dec 25. The center will reopen on Dec 26. For the week of December 26 all curbside collection remains unchanged.
  • Our Citizen’s Convenience Center is open Jan 1 and closed on Jan 2.
  • The week of Jan 2 all curbside collections will move one day forward. Set a reminder with Cary Collects so you never miss a pickup! townofcary.org/collects

Compost Your Holiday Greenery
When it’s time to take down the greenery, place Christmas trees and other natural decorations at the curb by 7 a.m. for your weekly yard waste collection. You can also leave your tree in the designated yard waste area at the Citizen’s Convenience Center during operating hours. Either way, it’ll be composted along with all our yard waste. Remember, never include artificial materials like lights, wires, and ornaments.

So Many Deliveries, So Much Cardboard!

Three options to recycle it:

  1. Flatten and/or cut boxes to fit in your recycling cart with the lid closed. Avoid cramming so all recyclables can empty into our trucks.
  2. Drop cardboard off at the Citizen’s Convenience Center.
  3. Request free cardboard collection at townofcary.org/311 or call 311.

Loose Leaf Season is Here
We’ll collect loose leaves from your street twice before Christmas (according to your schedule) at no charge. To view or print your schedule, enter your address at townofcary.org/collects or the Cary Collects mobile app.

  • To ensure collection, place leaves along the curb by 7 a.m. on the first day of your collection period.
  • Keep piles out of the street, away from mailboxes and fire hydrants, and off storm drains and water meters. Keep rocks, branches, and litter out of piles.

Got more leaves? If collection has passed, leaves placed inside reusable containers with handles or paper bags can be included in your regular weekly yard waste for pickup.
