Represent your family, organization, business, school or more as we surround Town Hall Campus with festive Gifting Trees. The winning tree will have a donation made to the nonprofit group of their choice.

Herbert C. Young Community Center will turn into Santa’s Workshop with craft stations for kids to make a gift for someone special. Support the Cary Teen Council’s food drive by sending each child with two non-perishable food items or a cash donation.

Get into the holiday spirit with old-fashioned Christmas fun at  Page-Walker’s Holiday Open House from 4-6 p.m. Tour the 1868 historic hotel, listen to Victorian Carolers and take a horse-drawn carriage ride.
Mark the holiday season with the Official Christmas Tree Lighting for the Town of Cary at 6 p.m. We’ll also unveil the Cary Community Christmas Tree inside Town Hall.

Holiday Potluck Celebration
The Cary Senior Center hosts the Holiday Potluck Celebration on December 8 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Cyber Safety First

Before you tackle your shopping list using online vendors, make sure you are computing with care. Town Council declared October Cyber Security Awareness Month in Cary.

Be sure to use unique passwords for every account. Consider using a short sentence or positive message as your password. Limit banking over public Wi-Fi connections and consider disabling your device’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features when not in use. Finally, remember links in emails, social media posts and texts are often the most common ways cybercriminals try to steal personal information. When in doubt, don’t click.

If you feel you’ve been victim to an online scam, report it at www.ncdoj.com.

Plumtree Water Tank Painting

After 16 years in service, the Plumtree Water Tank is getting a facelift. A painting contractor is working on repainting the 141 foot tall water tank near the intersection of Ten-Ten Road and Plumtree Way, adjacent to the Glenridge Community. New paint is being applied on the interior and exterior of the water tank. The new coating system will protect the tank from corrosion and will provide continued safe storage of drinking water for the next 15 to 20 years. The tank will be taken offline and drained for the project. Cellular antennas located on the pedestal of the tank will be moved to temporary poles and a cloth shroud will be installed covering the tank while it is being cleaned and when the coating is applied to prevent any material from leaving the site. The tank will be painted a light blue to match the color of the other elevated water tanks in town. The project will take approximately 4 months and no water service disruptions are anticipated.

Safe Home for the Holidays

The holiday season has arrived! No matter how you choose to celebrate, safety should always be a part of the festivities.

Fresh cut trees should be watered often and checked for dryness. While Christmas tree fires are uncommon, when they do occur, they are often devastating. Consider removing your tree within two weeks after the holidays and setting it out for solid waste to pick up once you’ve removed all the decorations.

Candles used in celebration should never be left burning unattended. Keep all decorations at least 3 feet from any heat source. And when it comes to cooking, always watch what you heat!

Protect yourself from crime during the holidays as well. Our Crime Prevention Team is available to conduct complementary assessments at your home or business. Once scheduled, a police officer will go on location to identify physical weaknesses in and around your home and offer low-cost suggestions to improve your safety and security. These surveys are best conducted during daylight and last about an hour.

Cary Gifts to Consider

Turn to Town Hall for a special someone on your holiday shopping list.
For the animal lover, purchase an annual membership or day pass to Cary’s Dog Park, available at any Cary community center.

In lieu of a present, make a donation to Cary’s Oasis or Relief for Recreation program. Oasis helps utility customers going through financial hardship with one-time assistance to pay their Cary utility bill. Relief for Recreation offers scholarships for Cary citizens to subsidize or entirely pay for fees associated with a parks, recreation or cultural resources program. Donating is easy, and contributions are tax-deductible.

Get Rid of FOG
Cooking for many? Keep cooking fats, oils and greases (FOG) out of our sewers by pouring it into collection containers. Pouring grease down the drain could lead to a sewer overflow. Give us a call when you’ve captured ½-gallon, and we’ll pick it up at your curb.
