Wastewater Report

Curious about what happens to the wastewater that goes down the drain? Get the facts in our Annual Wastewater Report. The report summarizes our system’s performance and provides quick facts, descriptions of our treatment facilities, and tips to keep the system working smoothly and the environment free from sewer spills. With your help and our staff’s quick response to sewer blockages and overflows, we reduced the number and volume of reportable spills last year. We are proud that our system continues to surpass federal and state requirements to protect your health and the environment.  Visit townofcary.org/wastewaterreport to see the full report. If you have specific questions or would like to request a copy by mail, dial 311 anywhere in Cary, (919) 469-4000 outside town limits, or email 311@townofcary.org

Fall Tree Giveaway
Saturday, October 23
Enhance your landscape and add to our community’s canopy by planting a tree in your yard this fall. Pick up a free native tree at the My Tree, Our Tree event. For event details and to register, visit townofcary.org/MyTreeOurTree.

Fertilizing this Fall?
Excess and stray fertilizer becomes a pollutant when washed into storm drains that lead to waterways. Smart fertilizing keeps our streams healthy and our lawns lush. Follow manufacturer guidelines to apply the right amount, and sweep fertilizer that falls on hard surfaces back onto your lawn.

Excess Cardboard
Flatten and/or cut boxes to fit in your recycling cart with the lid closed.  Avoid cramming so all recyclables can empty into our trucks. If you have more boxes than will fit in your cart, drop them off at the Citizen’s Convenience Center, 313 N. Dixon Ave. Or request a free cardboard collection at services.townofcary.org or by calling 311.

Creepy Contaminants
Candy wrappers and plastic cups and plates are all creepy contaminants in our recycling. Please keep these out of your recycling cart and only include accepted items.

Redistricting: Reflecting a Changing Cary

On June 24, Cary Town Council adopted a new map of municipal electoral district boundaries, which went into immediate effect. This helps maintain a population balance so that each person's vote counts about the same during municipal elections. With these changed boundaries, many precincts have moved but none were split or added. You may see a change in your district which also means you could have a new Council representative. To find out if your district has changed and learn more, visit townofcary.org/councildistricts.

Municipal Elections Delayed

Typically, Municipal elections are held in odd-numbered years. The mayor and all Council members serve four-year terms. Due to the passage of Session Law 2021-56, Cary's elections will be delayed until March 8, 2022. A full list of current Council members and their terms is available from Wake County Board of Elections, learn more at townofcary.org/elections.

Wander into Wonder
