Each year the Town of Cary’s Jewish Cultural Festival celebrates the culture and heritage of the Jewish religion and people with music, dance, crafts, food and fun. The theme for 2018’s festival, to be held on September 30 at 1 p.m. at the Cary Senior Center, is Sukkot, the harvest holiday.

Sign Up for ReadyWake Alerts!

Be sure to register your home in the county’s reverse 911 system, ReadyWake. By sharing contact information, the Town will be able to notify you via your preferred means of contact when there is an imminent threat to life, health and property. To register, visit www.readywake.com. Any self-registrations done prior to spring 2017 will need to be re-enrolled. Cary will conduct a Town-wide test in October.

Safety Corner

Since January, 91 people have died in house fires in North Carolina. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries.  Here are a few safety tips:

  • Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home.
  • Smoke alarms should be interconnected; when one sounds, they all sound.
  • Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
  • Test your smoke alarms at least once a month.
  • Today’s smoke alarms will be more technologically advanced to respond to a multitude of fire conditions and mitigate false alarms.
  • When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
  • Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.

Fertilizing this Fall?

Smart fertilizing helps keep our lawns lush and our streams healthy. Follow manufacturer guidelines and sweep excess fertilizer off hard surfaces and back on your lawn to keep additional nutrients out of our waterways.
