Comments on Changing Specs?

Between August 1-September 23, view and provide feedback online for the 2016 proposed updates to the  Town’s Standard Specifications and Details. These standards are referenced in designing our streets and  water, sewer and storm drainage systems and are periodically updated.

You can also submit comments in person September 7, from 5-7 p.m. at the Herb Young Community  Center. Don’t miss your opportunity to comment and provide input.

It’s Official! We Have a New Town Manager!

As everyone knows, former Town Manager Ben Shivar retired last fall after more than 39 years of public service. The search for a new manager was longer than anyone anticipated. Cary is a very special place, and finding our next Town Manager is one of the most important decisions Town Council would make.

Council considered over 80 applicants from across the nation and conducted face-to-face interviews with nearly a dozen as they worked to find just the right person to take us into the future. Of that group of talented individuals, Council found one candidate with the education, experience, personality and heart to be our next Town Manager. That person is Sean R. Stegall, the manager of Elgin, Illinois since 2009. His first day in Cary is August 4.

Along with his nearly 20 years of government experience, plus work in the private sector, Sean has a bachelor’s degree in political science as well as a master’s degree in public administration. And he’s no stranger to Cary. His wife’s family has a place at the beach, and Sean has been stopping in Cary along the way for years. Look for updates for opportunities to join us in welcoming him and his family to our community.

Hot Tips: Severe Weather

Severe weather is one of the greatest threats to our community. We can’t prevent the occurrences, but we can reduce their impacts on our lives. Take some steps to prepare your family:

  • Be informed. Visit www.readync.org or download the free, smartphone app to learn about hazards we face in North Carolina. Or, find the number to report power outages.
  • Make a plan. Where would you go if you had to evacuate? How would you contact family members? And remember to make contingency plans for your pets.
  • Prepare an emergency kit. Only you know your family’s specific needs. Your kit should be portable and able to sustain your family and pets for at least 72 hours.
  • Get involved. Look into taking a free CERT class offered by our Fire Department. You’ll learn how to prepare your household and help those around you.
