Reminder...
Unloading waste from a box truck is prohibited at the Citizen’s Convenience Center. If you haul waste to a Wake County Convenience Center using a box truck, dual-axle trailer, or enclosed trailer, you must first apply for a free Trash Pass online at wakegov.com/recycling

Cary Composts - No After-Hours Dropoff
If the Citizen’s Convenience Center is closed, please consider other waste and recycling drop-off options. Search your item in the Cary Collects Waste Wizard at townofcary.org/collects, find alternate drop-off locations near you, or plan to visit the center during normal operation hours. Never leave materials outside the gates of the Center. This is considered illegal dumping and unsafe for others and the environment.

Bring it to the Drop-Off!
Divert your household food waste from the landfill and return it to the earth as valuable compost through the pilot food waste recycling drop-off. Bring food scraps and other accepted materials directly to the Citizen’s Convenience Center at 313 N. Dixon Ave. and toss them in the designated carts. All material collected will be turned into compost by a local facility, some of which will be returned to the earth at Good Hope Farm. This service is open to Cary residents only; commercial interests are not accepted. Learn more about the accepted materials at townofcary.org/foodwaste

Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG)
Fire up the grill or deep fryer safely! Properly and easily dispose of any cooking fats, oils and grease (FOG) through Cary's Residential Cooking Oil Curbside Collection and Recycling Program. Simply place cooled, used cooking oil and grease in a plastic screw top food container. Once at least a half-gallon (approximately one two-liter soda bottle) is collected, properly label the container “used cooking oil” and call 311 to schedule a free curbside pickup. Simply dial 3-1-1 anywhere within Town limits or (919) 469-4000 outside Cary. Did you know? Used cooking oil is recycled into clean burning biofuel.

Meter Boxes
As you care for your yard this summer, avoid running the lawn mower over your meter box, as doing so can damage it. And keep the meter box free of debris, including leaves, mulch, grass clippings, and dirt. These measures help ensure the meter box provides accurate, timely water use data.

Cary Adopts New Flood Maps

The new Wake County Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) were adopted by the Cary Town Council on May 26, 2022. The new FIRM replaces the previous maps that had been in effect since May 2, 2006. For more information and to determine whether your property is located within a FEMA floodplain visit townofcary.org/floodplains. If your home or business is located within the mapped floodplain, you may be required to purchase flood insurance. Federally-backed flood insurance is available for all properties in Cary.

Close the Door!

Did you know a closed door is one of the best pieces of firefighting and life-saving equipment in a home? It can reduce fire growth and spread, limit damage to your home, and possibly save lives. Most home fire deaths are the direct result of smoke inhalation and closing your bedroom door while sleeping reduces this risk dramatically. If you must leave a room while escaping a fire, closing the door behind you limits fire damage to your home and gives you more time to escape your home.

If you sleep with the bedroom door closed, install smoke alarms inside and outside the bedroom. For best protection, make sure all smoke alarms are interconnected so when one smoke alarm sounds, they all sound.
