Be sure to reserve your seat by June 25.

To commemorate the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I, the Cary Town Band’s 31st annual Independence Eve Celebration musically recalls many of the wonderful tunes written during that war. The performance starts at 6:30 p.m. on July 3 at the Cary Arts Center with a preshow performance by Applause! Cary Youth Theatre.

Festivities begin bright and early on July 4 at the Independence Day Olde Time Celebration at Bond Park. Finish up your day with the 4th of July Celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre with patriotic performances and of course the fireworks finale. Gates open at 3 p.m. with kids’ activities, corn hole contests and more until 7 p.m. The Cary Town Band will perform at 5:45 p.m. and the NC Symphony takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Special reserved seating is available to purchase at the box office or online. On Vacation? Give Your Home a Break, Too

Going away on summer vacation? Here are a few home efficiency tips to keep your vacation worry free:

Turn your air conditioner to 85 degrees to save on your electricity bill. Unplug small kitchen appliances and tech like computers, televisions and sound systems. Make sure your smoke detectors are all working with fresh batteries.

If you choose to turn off water while away, consider using the main shut-off valve commonly located in a closet, crawl space or near a water heater. In either case, set an Aquastar alert to notify you of unexpected water use.

Set your water heater to vacation mode to save on your heating bill . Be sure automated irrigation systems have an active rain sensor set to 1/4inch. If you have a pool, check your pool pump to make sure it runs while you’re gone.

If you’ll be gone for a long time, ask someone to check on it periodically. Give a friend or neighbor contact details or services you use, such as your regular gardener or plumber, to get in touch easily if anything comes up.

Your drinking water is safe and high-quality. You’ll find the Report online (waterreport.townofcary.org), where you’re able to view the results of over 50,000 drinking water quality tests completed in 2017. Groundbreaking Celebration for New Library

Construction is now underway on the 30,000-square-foot Cary Regional Library and associated 600-space parking deck at the corner of Walnut Street and Kildaire Farm Road. Early construction work will include grading and clearing with some removal of trees and vegetation. Both the library and parking deck are expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

The new Wake County library is being developed in partnership with the county, who will manage the design and construction of both the library and the parking deck; the deck will serve library patrons and visitors to downtown Cary including the Cary Arts Center, Downtown Park and other nearby venues. The total cost of the project is $23.7 million, of which the Town’s portion is expected to be $13 million.

The Town-owned parking lot on Walker Street will be closed for the entirety of construction.

Cary and Wake County will host a groundbreaking celebration on June 27 at the adjacent Downtown Park.

Don’t Get Lost in the Transition

Have you signed up for real-time notifications through ReadyWake? If you signed up prior to spring 2017, you need to do so again.

Recently, Wake County moved its reverse 911 technology from a proprietary system to the Everbridge platform, a national solution commonly used by government and public safety agencies. All self-subscriptions were lost in the process of migrating from one system to the other.

By registering for this service, the Town will be able to notify you via your preferred means of contact—phone, text and email—when there is an imminent threat to life, health and property. Examples include, but are not limited to, hazmat situations, urgent information related to police, fire or public health and urgent utility information like boil water notices.

To sign-up, visit www. ReadyWake.com. ReadyWake is a service available to all residents, business owners, and workers in Wake County, including Cary residents in Wake and Chatham counties, as well as utility customers in Morrisville, RTPWake County, and RDU Airport.

Summer Means Ice Cream & Construction Cones

The warmer weather has arrived and you may have noticed many construction projects are underway around Town. Among them, improvements to the bridge on NW Cary Parkway over Black Creek began this spring! Work will require a roadway detour and greenway detour in the area. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2018.

Also, the Town of Cary and CSX Transportation will permanently close the at-grade railroad crossing at Carpenter Fire Station Road, east of N.C. 55 in early summer. This closure is part of the Town’s Carpenter Fire Station Road Realignment and Grade Separation Project and in support of a private development.

Take Mondays Off

When it comes to Mondays, automated irrigation and sprinklers should always be on break. Make sure they’re not running and note that there’s no time off for handheld devices and drip irrigation; these can be used any day as needed.
