Fun on the Fourth

Join us in celebrating the birth of our nation for a host of fun-filled events! It all begins with our Independence Eve Celebration. Come on out to the Cary Arts Center on July 3rd for a fun, patriotic presentation by the Applause! Touring Troupe and Cary Clown Comedy Camp. Then, the Cary Town Band performs German and British marches from the World Wars as well as the Hymn to the Fallen. There will also be a salute to military service personnel, past and present, who have helped secure our freedom and liberty.
Get up early on July 4th for Cary’s Olde Time Celebration. Travel back in time to Bond Park for lots of fun for the entire family. The day begins with a parent-child fishing tournament, followed by the Parade in the Park and a host of games and competitions from donut eating to watermelon seed spitting.
Then, head over to Koka Booth Amphitheatre for patriotic performances, music and an explosion of family-friendly activities.
The celebration is capped off with our annual spectacular fireworks display. While free and open to the public, reserved seating is available; pick up tickets at the Booth Box Office or at www.etix.com.

Rail Crossing Repairs Start

Work is about to begin on the railroad crossing at Old Apex Road and S.W. Cary Parkway.
S.W. Cary Parkway at Old Apex Road will close in early July and will open to through traffic in mid-August. All businesses and citizens who reside along S.W. Cary Parkway near the closure area will have access during all phases of the work.
The project will provide sidewalk improvements on each side of S.W. Cary Parkway and pedestrian signal controlled crosswalks to upgrade the rubber railroad grade crossing materials.

Help Stop Crimes of Opportunity

Cary is one of the safest communities in the country, but there are plenty of people who are glad to accept an invite to steal from unlocked cars and open garages, or even come into your home via an open garage and interior door.
These “crimes of opportunity” happen too often, including here in Cary. So, be sure to lock your home, garage, and car doors. If you see your neighbors’ open, knock on their door and encourage them to do the same.

Street Resurfacing Beginning

We’re about to begin resurfacing 22 miles of streets within the Town as part of our street resurfacing program.
Starting this month and continuing through the fall, we’ll perform routine street maintenance to keep our Town-owned streets in good condition. To determine which streets get some TLC, we employed a third party service to rate segments of streets most in need of repaving. Pieces of some 180 streets are to be repaved as part of this project, and include streets in all corners of Cary.
Check out the comprehensive list and more project information by searching “Streets Projects” at www.townofcary.org. This program was supported by Cary voters as part of the 2012 Community Investment Bonds.

Be An Aquastar

This summer, as you irrigate your yard, log in to Aquastar and gauge your water use to see if you’re using what you expect. While online, be sure to schedule a free performance check-up for your automatic irrigation system. We’ll review the efficiency of your system to help you get the most mileage out of every drop.

Imagine Cary in 2040

At a work session on May 1, Town Council gave the green light for Imagine Cary, a multi-year effort to update our Comprehensive Plan, to move into its second phase: Policy Options. This phase will include understanding choices for the future.
Public meetings will be held on July 24 from 7-9 p.m. at the Bond Park Community Center and July 26 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Cary Senior Center. Imagine Cary is an opportunity for everyone who cares about the Town to assess our community today, understand choices for the future, and create policies to match the vision.

Hurricane Season is Here

Are you ready for nature’s biggest summer storms? Hurricanes can cause outages, wind damage, flooding and more.
Create a disaster kit for each family member, including pets. It should be easily portable and include food, clothes, medicine, cash, sensitive documents, and a flashlight with batteries. Pack enough supplies for each person and pet to last at least three days.

Hot Tips: Fireworks Safety

The Fourth of July wouldn’t be the same without fireworks. Although we encourage you to attend sanctioned firework displays like the ones at Booth Amphitheatre, if you decide to light your own, know the facts.
Legal fireworks in our state include snake/grow worms, smoke devices, wire sparklers, trick noisemakers, and snappers and sprays. Anything that explodes or is projected into the air— firecrackers, roman candles and aerial fireworks— is illegal.
Be sure to buy from a reputable vendor. Never relight a dud, and soak spent devices in water before disposing in the trash.

Only Rain In The Drain

Cary’s storm drains discharge into lakes and streams that serve as your drinking water supply. Illegal discharges to our storm drain system can pollute our water. Notify the Town if you see someone dumping illegally into a storm drain.
