Summer Fun Family Events

Pimento Cheese Festival
June 11, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. | Downtown Cary | Free
Academy Street will be lined with food trucks offering dishes that feature a Southern delicacy: pimento cheese! Enjoy live music, grab a drink from local breweries, and taste pimento cheese samples from local restaurants and artisan pimento cheese makers. Park After Dark

Enjoy a fun night out in Downtown Cary with your significant other, a group of friends, or just fly solo. Niito will bring their eclectic sound to downtown Cary. Juneteenth-Celebrate Freedom
Celebrated annually, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, Texas, that all previously enslaved Black people in the state were free. To learn more, visit townofcary.org/juneteenth

H. Galloway, a fiery young slave rebel, radical abolitionist, and Union spy who

Holiday Collection Changes
Memorial Day-Holiday Week of May 30
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection for all households will move one day later the week of May 30. The Citizen’s Convenience Center will be closed on May 30.

Disposal Do's

  • Furniture: If it can’t be reused, safely dispose of an old couch or other piece of furniture at our Citizen’s Convenience Center. To request a bulky item pickup, dial 311 inside Town limits or (919) 469-4000 outside Cary, or online at services.townofcary.org. Fees may apply.
  • Cardboard: Flatten and cut to fit in your recycling cart. Remove tape and other packaging such as air pillows and foam. Can't fit it all? To request free excess cardboard collection, dial 311 inside Town limits or (919) 469-4000 outside Cary, or online at services.townofcary.org
  • Yard Waste: As yard work ramps up, the Citizen's Convenience Center is ready to accept your yard waste! Remove and dispose all trash from your yard waste before dumping. Search more items for disposal options using the Waste Wizard feature in Cary Collects at townofcary.org/collects

Help Shape the Future of Cary's Urban Forest
Share your thoughts and ideas on a wide variety of tree topics at the Community Voice Tree Summit on Saturday June 11, 9:30-11 a.m. at the Herb Young Community Center. Snacks and door prizes provided as we talk trees together. On-site childcare available and provided by Cary Teen Council. Learn more at townofcary.org/trees

Summer Tree Talk: Watering and Pest Management
Get tips from Cary’s Urban Forestry Manager on how to maintain the health of young trees by correctly watering them and effectively managing pests. Register by searching “Tree Talk” at myCary.org for the June 15, noon-12:30 p.m. free virtual class.

Avoid Water Woes

Prevent unexpected water issues as the mowing and vacation seasons begin.

  • Mow around and not over meters to keep them intact.
  • When out of town, keep an eye on your Aquastar portal to check for unforeseen plumbing problems. Or, call 311 to arrange for staff to turn off your water meter when you leave for an extended period of time, and schedule a time for us to turn it back on upon your return.

Cary Boards, Commission, and Committee Volunteer Opportunity

Are you a citizen of Cary and looking for ways you can make a difference in your community? The recruitment period to serve on a Cary Town Council appointed Board, Commission, or Committee is open now! Board members volunteer their time and expertise to assist Council in making informed decisions and policies for our community. Cary CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)

Interested in learning more about disaster preparedness and being engaged in volunteer opportunities in your community? The Cary CERT team is actively seeking new volunteers to get engaged with the community to learn about home fire safety, basic disaster response skills, preparedness, light search and rescue, and team organization skills.
