Bands, Bites, and Boats

Friends of the Page-Walker Herbfest

Ritmo Latino Festival

Wheels on Academy Car Show

May 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. | Downtown Cary
Enjoy classic rock and classic cars on North Academy St. Cars of yesteryear will come alive again and rule the road along with some of today’s modern muscle and exotic cars. Street Repaving Begins this Spring

This spring, we begin the repaving of over 11 miles of Cary streets. Regular street maintenance reduces future costs, improves safety for all road users, and enhances aesthetics. Expanding and Improving Greenways

Construction is underway or about to start shoveling dirt on several exciting greenway projects. Visit the project pages to learn more.

  • Black Creek Greenway Renovation: Originally built over 25 years ago, one of Cary’s most popular greenway is being renovated and improved. Visit carygreenwaydetour.com for updates.
  • Crabtree Creek Greenway: This project creates an important bike/pedestrian connection between Bond Park and Preston soccer fields off High House Road. Visit carync.gov/crabtreegreenway for updates.
  • Higgins Greenway (Phase 3): This greenway connection enhances connectivity between neighborhoods and downtown Cary. Visit carync.gov/higgins3 for updates.
  • White Oak Creek Greenway Improvements: To enhance visibility and user experience look for improvements east of the Cary Parkway greenway; and greenway maintenance to improve
    erosion and stormwater runoff west of Jenks Carpenter Road. Visit carync.gov/maintaingreenway for updates.
  • Cary Pkwy Pedestrian Bridge: This bridge builds a new link in our sidewalk network to improve pedestrian safety and convenience. Visit carygreenwaydetour.com for updates.

Holiday Collection Changes
Memorial Day - Holiday Week of May 27
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection for all households will move one day later this week. The Citizen’s Convenience Center will be closed May 27. Set a reminder with Cary Collects, carync.gov/collects so you never miss a pickup.

International Compost Awareness Week – May 5-11
Celebrate Mother Nature’s original recycling program - composting! Visit Cary’s Compost Education Center in Bond Park May 5 from 11 a.m-1 p.m. for Q&A with a composting expert. Explore backyard bin options and discover the many benefits of making and using your own compost at this free family-friendly event.

Then, don’t miss your chance to purchase your own discounted backyard bin; our annual online Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale closes May 10. If DIY isn’t for you, don’t worry! Residents can access either of Cary’s two Food Waste Recycling Drop-off sites to transform their kitchen scraps into compost. Carpenter Community Garden Open House – May 11, 9-11 a.m.

Tour Cary’s Historic Good Hope Farm – May 18, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Step back in time and explore, get a behind-the-scenes look at our organic teaching farm. Located in the Carpenter Historic District, this dynamic facility supports beginning farmers while educating the community about regenerative agriculture and local food systems. Cary Microtransit Feasibility Study

Cary is exploring options to complement existing transit services in our community by conducting a feasibility study. This includes options such as microtransit, which can be used to fill in gaps and

Historic Preservation Month: Cary High School's Farm-Life Program

May 21, 7 p.m. | Page-Walker Arts & History Center
Farming, construction and home economics were part of the Farm-Life program introduced at Cary High School in 1913 by Principal Marcus Dry.
