Our Water

Pressure Zone Shift
About 1,200 homes in the area of the Preston Village and Heritage Pines subdivisions will experience an increase in water pressure on April 9. Those impacted received a letter in January. If you received a letter, please review it carefully. If you did not receive a letter, your property is likely not included in the water pressure increase. To know if you are in this change, enter your property’s address into our interactive map, which can be found online at www.townofcary.org/pressurezone

Disinfection Switchover
Every year around March, we join neighboring municipalities and temporarily suspend the use of ammonia in our water treatment process. We do this to comply with the State’s recommendation that all water systems that add ammonia temporarily switch to chlorine only. Making that temporary switch helps en-sure that our drinking water remains safe, and it is an important part of maintaining our utility system and our award-winning water. If you use water for kidney dialysis, fish aquariums and other chlorine-sensitive uses, be aware that from March 1 to April 19, the water may contain chlorine, ammonia or a mixture of both.

Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Here’s what you need to know:

1. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire.
2. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area.
3. Install alarms on every level of the home.
4. Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
5. Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
6. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
7. When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
8. Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.
