About 450 homes in the Preston area will experience an increase in water pressure on April 10. Those impacted received a letter about the change in mid-January. If you received a letter, please review it carefully. If you did not receive a letter, your property is likely not included in the water pressure increase. To know whether you are in this or future changes, enter your property’s address into our interactive map, which can be found online.

Spring cleaning?

The seasonal shift in hours at the Citizen’s Convenience Center starts April 1 and runs through September. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and holidays; and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. That means more time to drop off a variety of residential waste/recycling items, such as furniture, electronics and yard clip-pings (fees may apply). Commercial use and waste from private contractors, including from land-scape and garden companies, is prohibited.

April Showers

While helpful to lawns, April showers can wash fertilizer and other chemicals into our storm drains, which lead to our streams. Protect our waterways by applying lawn and garden products per directions and sweeping what falls on driveways and sidewalks back onto the lawn. Visit us online for a new video about preventing water pollution.

Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire-related deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. Here are some tips to help keep you safe in the event of a fire:

  • A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of the home.
  • Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
  • Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button to be sure the alarms are working.
  • When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay there.
  • Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.
