This Month's Headlines:

New Year, New Way

In Cary, we’ve made a resolution to be more accessible than ever before. Introducing 311Cary—your direct connection to Town Hall! The first of its kind in the Triangle, but common in municipalities across the country, 311Cary serves as a central line for assistance. Now, you can get non-emergency information and submit your requests for services in just one place. Citizen Advocates will assist you in navigating Cary Town Hall to ensure you’re directly connected to the information and services you need, or they may be able to answer your question right on the spot. You can reach 311Cary from any phone within Town limits by simply dialing 3-1-1; if outside of Cary, dial(919) 469-4000. Phones are answered weekdays from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Common requests include, but are not limited to, missed curbside collections, utility bill inquiries and payments, inspections and permits information, rezoning inquiries, and so much more. After hours, you can call 311Cary to report water/sewer emergencies; all other after hours requests are best handled online at www.townofcary.org/311. Bottom line: If you require emergency services, call 911. For everything else, there’s 311Cary. We look forward to your call!

Change, with the Time

As daylight savings time approaches on March 8, use this date as a reminder to check the safety devices in your home.

  • Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are operational.
  • Change the batteries and replace all smoke detectors over 10 years old and all carbon monoxide detectors that are out of date.
  • Check the manufacturers recommendations for the replacement dates on your carbon monoxide detector.
  • Check the gauge on your fire extinguisher to make sure it is fully charged and in the operating range. Place your fire extinguisher in a readily accessible location.
  • Make sure you have a home escape plan and take this time to practice it with your loved ones.

If you have any questions, contact the Town of Cary Fire Department at (919) 460-4958 or visit www.townofcary.org/firesafety.

Water Change, Temporary

During the month of March, we join neighboring municipalities to temporarily suspend the use of ammonia in our water treatment process. We do this to comply with the state’s recommendation that all water systems that add ammonia make a temporary switch to chlorine only. This short-term change is an important part of maintaining our water system and helps ensure our award-winning water remains safe. If you use water for kidney dialysis, fish aquariums, and other chlorine-sensitive uses, be aware that from March 1 to 31, the water may contain chlorine, ammonia or a mixture of both. Questions? Call 311or visit www.townofcary.org/waterchange.

Follow the steps on the free toilet dye tablets available at our Finance window in Town Hall or use food coloring. Find complete instructions and tips online www.townofcary.org/fixaleak.

Pets on Leashes

As you enjoy Cary greenways, please be aware of the greenway rules and regulations. As a reminder, our four-legged friends are welcome on the greenways but must be kept on a max 6’ leash and walked on the right side of the trails for the safety and enjoyment of everyone. www.townofcary.org/greenways.
