Cary It Green

Holiday Collection Changes
The Citizen's Convenience Center will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on December 24 and remain closed all day on December 25. The center will reopen on December 26. For the week of December 25, all curbside collections will move one day forward (Tues. – Fri.).

Register to Learn About Residential Solar Energy
Join us on December 6 from noon to 1 p.m. for an online “lunch and learn” to discover if solar energy is right for you. Cary is partnering with local industry experts for this Q&A session to help explain the basics and benefits of installing residential solar energy systems. The class is free, but registration is required. Visit carync.gov/solar to learn more.

Compost Your Holiday Greenery
When it’s time to take down the greenery, place Christmas trees and other natural decorations at the curb by 7 a.m. for your weekly yard waste collection. During operating hours, you can also leave your tree in the designated yard waste area at the Citizen’s Convenience Center. Either way, it’ll be composted along with all our yard waste. Remember, never include artificial materials like lights, wires, and ornaments.

So Many Deliveries, So Much Cardboard!
Three options to recycle it:
1. Flatten and/or cut boxes to fit in your recycling cart with the lid closed. Avoid cramming so all recyclables can empty into our trucks.
2. Drop cardboard off at the Citizen’s Convenience Center.
3. Request free cardboard collection at carync.gov/311 or call 311.

Loose Leaf Season is Here
We're collecting loose leaves throughout Cary now through January. Our first collection started October 30, and you can track the collection progress at carync.gov/leaves.

We intend to collect at every house again before Christmas. Simply have your leaves at the curb by 7 a.m. on November 27. To ensure collection, keep leaf piles out of the street, away from mailboxes and fire hydrants, and off storm drains and water meters. Keep rocks, branches, and litter out of piles. To view or print this year's schedule, enter your address at carync.gov/collects or download the Cary Collects mobile app.

As a reminder, leaves can be placed inside reusable containers with handles or paper bags and collected weekly as part of your curbside yard waste collection.

Count Me In, Cary! Stewardship Strategies For A Sustainable Future

WE CAN COUNT ON YOU! Over the course of six months, the Count Me In, Cary! Climate Ambassadors attended 25 community events to connect with citizens around Cary's forthcoming Sustainability & Climate Action Strategy. Through these events and more, we gathered more than 3,700 responses to
the Count Me In, Cary! community surveys. This feedback is a pivotal part of our campaign and will ensure our Sustainability & Climate Action Strategy reflects the priorities of our community. Continue to stay engaged at carync.gov/CountMeInCary.

Draft Urban Forest Master Plan Public Comment Period

Did you know that 51% of Cary is covered in tree canopy, and 80% exists on privately owned land? In keeping with our commitment to being good stewards of our finite natural resources, Cary strategically plans for a more resilient future through an Urban Forest Master Plan. Join us in our efforts to care for our urban forests and learn more about Cary's tree care tactics by checking out our draft Urban Forest Master Plan, available for comment and public input November 6-December 6 at carync.gov/trees.

Contain the FOG

While cooking this holiday season, don’t wash fats, oils, and grease (FOG) down the drain. Instead, scrape or pour cooled excess oil into a plastic screw-cap container, label it, and request free pick-up online or by calling 311. For more info and disposal options, visit carync.gov/curbsiderecycling.
