Redistricting: Reflecting a Changing Cary

At their regular meeting on June 24, Cary Town Council adopted a new map of municipal electoral district boundaries, which went into immediate effect. This helps maintain a population balance so that each person's vote counts about the same during municipal elections. With these changed boundaries, many precincts have moved but none were split or added. And you may see a change in your district which also means you could have a new Council representative. To find out if your district has changed and learn more about Cary's districts, visit townofcary.org/councildistricts.

Cary It Green

Holiday Collection, Week of Sep. 5 (Labor Day Sep. 6)
Curbside waste, recycling and yard waste collections move one day later Labor Day week. The Citizen’s Convenience Center is closed on Monday, Sep. 6. Always know your collection schedule: search your address at townofcary.org/collects, then view, print or embed your calendar on iCal, Google or your Outlook calendar. You can also set a reminder so you never miss a pickup!

Excess Cardboard
Flatten and/or cut boxes to fit in your recycling cart with the lid closed. Avoid cramming so all recyclables can empty into our trucks. If you have more boxes than will fit in your cart, drop them off at the Citizen’s Convenience Center,  313 N. Dixon Ave. Or, request a free cardboard collection at services.townofcary.org or by calling 311.

Good for the Lawn, not our Waterways
Help maintain the health of our waterways. Prevent excess and stray fertilizer and other lawn chemicals from flowing into storm drains and becoming pollutants in our streams and creeks. Get the most benefit from your efforts by following manufacturer guidelines, sweeping/blowing fertilizer that falls on hard surfaces back onto your lawn, and then lightly watering to help fertilizer settle in. To further help protect the environment, dispose of unused or outdated pesticides, fertilizers, and garden chemicals safely; search items for disposal options using the Waste Wizard at townofcary.org/collects.

We're Talking Trees
September 22, noon-12:30 p.m.  |  Virtual
Join Cary’s Urban Forestry Manager for a series of free virtual tree talks. Seasonal topics include tree planting tips, pruning, soil care, watering and pest management. Register by searching Tree Talk at myCary.org.

Sewer Line Rehabilitation along Lake Crabtree

Rehabilitation of an existing 48-inch sewer line along the South Shore of Lake Crabtree will get underway in the Fall of 2021. Liners will be installed in the existing pipes, extending their service life by 50 years. This work will take approximately 9 months to complete and is part of a $12 million project to upgrade the sewer lines along the Crabtree Creek and Black Creek Greenways. The Crabtree Creek Greenway will be closed during the first portion of this work and a signed detour will direct greenway traffic to an alternate route.

Upon completion of the sewer improvements along the Crabtree Creek Greenway, the greenway will be reopened to the public and work will begin on the Black Creek Greenway beginning at West Dynasty Drive. Up-to-date information regarding greenway closures and detours are available at http://carygreenwaydetour.com/
