Cary It Green

Let The Rain Drain
With hurricane season upon us, now is a good time to make sure rainwater that falls on your property drains away from your house. During the next summer shower, watch what happens. If water is ponding, unclog gutters and yard inlets (if you have one) to help that rain flow freely to the storm drain system and make its way to the nearby creek.

Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG)
Fire up the grill or deep fryer safely! Properly and easily dispose of any cooking fats, oils and grease (FOG) through Cary's Residential Cooking Oil Curbside Collection and Recycling Program. Simply place cooled, used cooking oil and grease in a plastic screwtop food container. Once at least a half-gallon (approximately one two-liter soda bottle) is collected, properly label the container “used cooking oil” and call 311 to schedule a free curbside pickup. Simply dial 3-1-1 anywhere within Town limits or (919) 469-4000 outside Cary.
Fun Fact: Used cooking oil is recycled into clean burning biofuel.

Reminder...
Unloading waste from a box truck is prohibited at the Citizen’s Convenience Center. If you haul waste to a Wake County Convenience Center using a box truck, dual-axle trailer, or enclosed trailer, you must first apply for a free Trash Pass online at wakegov.com/recycling

Count Me In, Cary!

STEWARDSHIP STRATEGIES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
DID YOU KNOW?
Buildings alone account for 61% of all greenhouse gas emissions in Cary, which means they're our community's largest contributor to climate change. Right now, we have an exciting opportunity to transition to renewables, improve energy efficiency, and construct more resilient buildings — all while saving residents money on their energy bills. The Count Me In, Cary! Stewardship Strategies for a Sustainable Future campaign is driving the transition to a cleaner energy future, and we want to hear your thoughts! Provide input on clean, safe, and reliable energy in our community by filling out the energy questionnaire on the Count Me In, Cary! Engagement Hub. carync.gov/CountMeInCary

Cary is currently updating our bike plan, and we value your participation. Visit carync.gov/BikeCary to learn more about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved during the planning process. Your involvement is vital in shaping the future of bicycling in Cary.
