New Names, Spaces at Town Hall

On your next trip to Town Hall, note new names and locations for some of our more frequently visited departments.
The Engineering Department is now divided into Water Resources and Facilities Design & Transportation Services; both can be reached at (919) 469-4030 and are located on the second floor of Town Hall in the former Engineering space.
The Planning Department is now on the first floor next to Inspections & Permits. Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources has moved to the third floor. These departments have retained their phone numbers, (919) 469-4082 and (919) 469-4061 respectively.
A Town-wide reorganization launched by Town Manager Ben Shivar started in October with the goal of aligning departments and staff into functional focus areas for increased internal efficiencies and better service to the Cary community.
It will take the next few months to update signage, the Town’s website and other communications tools to reflect the reorganization, and we appreciate your support.

Temporary Changes at the Tap

Every March, we join neighboring municipalities in temporarily stopping the use of ammonia in our water treatment process. This disinfection process is a State-mandated practice to ensure safe drinking water.
Customers who use water for kidney dialysis, fish aquariums and other chlorine-sensitive uses should be aware the water may contain chlorine, ammonia, or a mixture of both from March 1-April 1, 2014.

Fix a Leak Week: March 17-23

During EPA’s Fix a Leak Week, March 17-23, we encourage you to log in and get to know your water use through our Aquastar Web Portal.
Understanding your household’s typical water use patterns can help you detect unusual usage and identify leaks that can be repaired. Through Aquastar, you can also set water usage text or email alerts to help manage your consumption.

Hot Tips: Home Sprinkler Systems

National fire data shows residential sprinkler systems reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by 80 percent. Sprinklers save lives and property by helping to keep fires small. Because the systems are fast-acting, they dramatically reduces the heat, flames and smoke produced by a fire, giving people more time to escape safely.
In a properly installed system, only the sprinklers closest to the fire will activate. Home sprinklers can be installed in a new or existing home, so if you are considering a remodel, consider incorporating this life-saving system.
